Elective disciplines

The Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education” provides for the right of higher education students to choose academic disciplines within the limits provided for by the relevant educational program and curriculum in the amount of not less than 25 percent of the total number of ECTS credits provided for this level of higher education.

Elective components, elective academic disciplines or academic disciplines of the higher education student’s choice are disciplines offered for study by a higher education institution to better meet their educational and qualification needs for the needs of society, effective use of the capabilities of the educational institution, etc.

The student chooses the disciplines of the elective components of a particular educational program when forming an individual curriculum.

The student has the right to choose academic disciplines from the proposed list that meet the required amount of credits and are taught in the relevant semester (fall or spring).

Elective courses are offered:

  • at the bachelor’s level of higher education – from the second academic year (third semester);
  • at the master’s level of higher education from the first academic year (first semester).
