The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law “On the Mental Health Care System”

This is a strategic document that forms the basis for a more accessible, high-quality and effective system of psychosocial support.

Mental health is a global challenge of our time. Anxiety, stress, sleep disturbances, and depressed mood have become an integral part of many Ukrainians’ lives.

A long-term war brings not only physical losses but also deep psychological trauma, which often remains invisible but has a powerful impact on the quality of life of each person, their loved ones, and society as a whole.

The new law offers a systematic approach, breaking down stereotypes and forming a modern model of psychosocial support:

~ the law denies the misconception that mental health issues are exclusively the responsibility of the healthcare system
~ unified standards of services – the law defines clear standards for the provision of psychological assistance, a list of necessary services and mechanisms for their coordination between governmental and non-governmental structures
~ support for self-regulatory organizations (SROs) – the law officially recognizes SROs that have been actively working in the field of mental health for many years, contributing to the professionalism and development of this field.
~ Mental health care in the workplace – employers are given the right to develop psychosocial support programs for employees, which is an important step towards improving the well-being of teams.

The next step is to develop bylaws that will detail the provisions of the law and implement new standards and tools.

Mental health is not only about caring for each individual. This is an investment in the sustainability of society, in its ability to recover and develop. By supporting people today, we are laying the foundation for the country’s recovery after the victory.
