Lecture-Discussion “Leaders of freedom: 5 stories of the resilience of women who shaped Ukraine in the 20th century” to be held at the USFU

The lecture “Leaders of freedom: 5 stories of the resilience of women who shaped Ukraine in the 20th century” will be held as part of the cultural and educational program.

The event is dedicated to important female figures in Ukrainian history who, despite all the difficulties, have become symbols of strength, courage, and loyalty to national ideals.

Today, when Ukraine is once again fighting for its independence and future, it is important to talk about those who have contributed to the preservation of Ukrainian national identity.

The heroines of the lecture “Leaders of freedom: 5 stories of the resilience of women who shaped Ukraine in the 20th century” are inspiring examples of resilience that reveal the true power of women and their ability to change the course of history, even when circumstances seem insurmountable.

The lecture will introduce the biographies of prominent Ukrainian women:

Olena Stepaniv – the first officer in Ukrainian history, a chorunzha of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen.
Khrystyna Sushko – the only officer of the UPR Army.
Kharytyna Kononenko – a public figure, volunteer, writer, trend maker.
Maria Bachynska-Dontsova – an activist of the women’s movement, a diplomat of the UPR.
Sofia Rusova – the founder of Ukrainian preschool pedagogy, a government official of the UPR.

They acted at the turn of empires and survived totalitarian regimes, paving the way for Ukraine’s independence.

The lecture will be delivered by Tetiana Shvydchenko, PhD in History, Head of the Department of General Education at Ukraine Sigmund Freud University, Head of the NGO Expert Corps, researcher of Ukrainian liberation movements in the twentieth century, co-author of the art book Stolytsiia Kyiv: How Our Elite Fought, Created, and Frolicked 100 Years Ago.
Ms. Tetyana will share research and archival materials that will reveal new aspects of the lives and activities of women who made a significant contribution to the struggle for freedom and dignity.

The lecture is for anyone interested in Ukrainian history, culture, science, the women’s movement, and leadership, as well as for those who seek inspiration from historical figures.
