Seminar topic: «Mood disorders in psychological practice: spectrum, categories, understanding, interventions».
The category of mood disorders is one of the most common causes of disability, reduced quality of life, and suicide risk.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2019, 280 million people were living with depression, including 23 million children and adolescents.
Depression differs from normal mood fluctuations and short-term emotional responses to everyday challenges.
In 2019, 40 million people were affected by bipolar disorders. For individuals with bipolar disorder, depressive episodes alternate with periods of manic symptoms.
In addition to major depression and bipolar disorders, there are other mood disorders that, thanks to modern research and clinical observation, are becoming better recognized and understood by specialists.
A clear understanding of the main manifestations of affective disorders, knowledge of their diagnostic categories and criteria, comorbidities, and variations in progression allows psychologists/psychotherapists to timely identify these signs in clients/patients at risk, provide adequate information, offer effective support, and guide them toward other potential avenues of assistance.
The seminar is conducted by M.D., Ph.D., practicing psychiatrist (private medical practice with over 20 years of experience), associate professor of psychology at Ukraine Sigmund Freud University: Andrii Bondarchuk.
